This is my
story I'm about to tell
How living in poverty just aint swell
I got three
kids that I gotta support
Cuz their dad just says that
I’m trying to extort.
Day in day out I work real
hard
Can’t even pay the bill on my credit card.
Â
CHORUS
Work three jobs for minimum wage
My bills I can’t pay just won’t go away
I drive three hours in a bus to work
And all
the rich people just treat me like dirt.
Â
I get home one day to see that we’ve been evicted
Kicked outta
my house just like my mom predicted
Got nowhere to go, three kids
and no car
What I can tell you is that we won’t get too far
I go to get help from my neighbours and friends
But the answer
is no, I can see by portends.
CHORUS
Not even family can help you when you’re on the streets
Go to an abandoned house, another one of my defeats
My children
aren’t safe here I can clearly tell
But it’s not like I can
afford a hotel
It’s just for awhile til I’m back on my
feet
But nothing in my life will ever be concrete
CHORUS
Two in the morning
I wake up to find
Some teenagers who are quite unkind
Drinking, smashing bottles all over the place
I wanna shout
out to them that this is my place
They flick their buts off and
walk away
And a little fire starts much to my dismay
CHORUS
I grab my kids
and get outta there just in time
The place is engulfed in flames;
they won’t pay for their crime
Now I’m right back to
where I started will it never end?
This vicious cycle where I
turn out to condescend
Mother of three with no place to go
I shoulda been outta this situation a long time ago
CHORUS (repeat to fade out)
